HEADED TO THE BIG "D"
There is a country song and in it there is a verse” I’m headed down to Big “D” and I don’t mean Dallas” …in the song the singer is talking about divorce.
Ø Divorce has a diluted meaning in today’s age.
Ø It literally means to separate or dissociate from something else.
Ø Of course, we know that when we are divorced, we are separating ourselves from the other person…
Ø We are also separating ourselves from God by divorce…
Ø What do I mean by this??
Hebrews 3:12 warns,Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. “
Ø We as Christians are brides of Christ, and the devil wants nothing more than to :
· Discredit
· Undermine
· Devalue the impact of the Word of God
Ø Satan wants nothing more than to sow seeds of unbelief in our hearts
Ø Another word for unbelief is doubt.
Ø Satan has been working at creating doubt in the hearts of men ever since the Garden of Eden.
Today, we will be looking in Genesis and we will be looking at how Satan tries to undermine God since the very beginning… so that we can recognize if WE are Headed To The Big “D” !!
The things that Satan wanted Eve to doubt:
I. SATAN WANTED EVE TO DOUBT WHO GOD WAS
A. Satan wants Eve to doubt the Wisdom of God. (GN V.1-2; but really 1-5)
· We can see what Wisdom is through Job. (Job 28:28)
B. Satan wants Eve to doubt the Honesty of God. (GN V.4)
· We know that God is! (Hebrews 6:18)
C. Satan wants Eve to doubt the Goodness of God. (GN V.5)
· We know that God is good! (Nahum 1:7)
II. SATAN WANTED EVE TO DOUBT WHO SHE WAS
A. Satan wanted Eve to doubt what she could do.
· That she COULD resist temptation. (James 4:7)
B. Satan wanted Eve to doubt what she knew.
· Just as love is an Obstacle for Sin, the lack of reasoning is a conduit for it. (Daniel 11:32)
C. Satan wanted Eve to doubt who she was.
· Eve was a child of God! (John 1:12)
III. SATAN WANTS US TO DOUBT, AS WELL
A. Satan wants to kill what we know.
· How often do we stop at John 3:16? let’s read (Jn. 3:16-18)
B. Satan wants to steal what we can do.
· Our response! We must continue our course! (1 Tim. 6:11; 2 Pet. 3:17)
C. Satan wants to destroy who we are.
· We who are saved are of a heavenly kingdom! (Phil. 3:20)
· For those that Satan fools… judgement is coming. (Col. 3:6)
CONCLUSION---
· Satan still tries to get us to doubt today. He wants us to doubt what the Bible tells us to be true.
· TEMPTATIONS DON’T BECOME SIN UNTIL WE AGREE WITH THEM!!
